DOUGH CLAY —

 

Working with dough clay is a magnificently satisfying art form through which, both children and adults, can achieve enchanting results. The dough is very pliable and suitable for all sorts of applications.

TEDDY BEARS (IN PARTICLAR)

BODY: Roll a piece of dough, about the size of a medium walnut, into a ball until smooth. Flatten slightly with palm.

 

HEAD: Roll another, somewhat smaller ball, and attach to body with water.

 

EYES: Using the point of a toothpick, make two little holes on the face where eyes ought to be.

 

NOSE: Roll a tiny ball of dough; wet placement area; attach.

 

EARS: Roll 2 bits of dough, about 3 times the size of the nose, into balls. Use the tip of a toothpick to make an indentation from the centre to one edge of each of the balls. Attach each ear to top of head on an angle.

 

ARMS (& LEGS): Roll a chunky coil, about the thickness of a pencil; cut into 1/2” pieces. Flatten ends. Attach to chest area. For legs, do the same thing, but make the coils somewhat thicker and longer. Attach toward bottom of body, sticking out.

 

FRINGE: Squeeze dough through garlic press. Wet middle-top of head and press a few short strands of dough in place
