Feeling emotionally stuck? Going in circles? Try the 'release' exercise below.

 

WHAT TO DO – I AM READY TO RELEASE …

On a page in your lined journal or on sheets of lined paper, write the sentence stem: I am Ready to Release … at the top of the first page. (The sentence stem is used to prompt a response, then another and another.)

 

Set a timer for 5 -15 minutes. Mentally say the sentence stem, then write whatever answer comes to mind — no matter if it make sense or not.

 

Repeat the sentence stem again, write the next answer in the same stream of consciousness manner. Continue to repeat the process without stopping to think. If you feel stuck for an answer — make one up.

 

Allow the answers to come to the surface over and over until the timer rings.

 

I AM READY TO RELEASE … IDEAS

• a fear

• extra weight

• an abusive relationship

• a dis-ease

• a personal failure

• the need to be alone

 

 

• a bias

• a sense of littleness

• personal lies

• the retelling of a childhood injury
