I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought,
but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

EARTH SPIRIT

By now concern for the fair and respectful treatment of the Earth is old, tired news. Lots of people would like the issues to just go away. Thing is – we haven’t won the battle yet!

Though there are good, solid reasons to be proud of our progress, it isn't fast enough. It isn't widespread enough.

Most of what is going on around care of the Earth is still money, image or fear based. We still need that leap to inter-species connectedness.

Earth Spirit is about respect and kinship with the Earth. Most importantly, its about how each of us can take personal responsibility and on-going stewardship of the planet and its non-human inhabitants.

YOU'RE EITHER
PART OF THE PROBLEM OR …

For a long time now, I have proudly considered myself part of the environmental solution. I believed, passionately, that I was doing all the right things. It's not true. In so many little ways my behaviour, taught to me by our 'throw-away' society, is so automatic that I'm not even aware of some of the things I do.

Luckily though, once you set your mind on a course, doing good things for the environment is as habit forming as not. Like most things in life, the success of this project (protecting the Earth) is all in the attitude.

A positive attitude makes for positive actions which produce positive results.

So what can you do? Anything. Any step in the right direction is a great place to start...

PART OF THE SOLUTION

— save water

• turn off the tap while brushing your teeth...
• keep a jug of cold water in the fridge so you don't have to run the tap...

• fill a small bottle with water from your toilet tank and place it inside the tank to use less water for flushing...

– save trees

• share newspapers and/or switch to enews...
• use the backs of 'junk mail' to jot notes, grocery lists & phone messages...
• reuse gift paper & gift boxes...
• use a permanent coffee filter...
• switch to cloth diapers...
• remove make up with a soft wash cloth instead of tissues...

– reduce toxins

• grab the baking soda for most cleanups...
• use the most appropriate mode of transportation – bicycle, public transit, car pool …

• encourage the production of recycled products by buying them...

It's not necessary for us to drastically change our lifestyles. Little things count. Little things done by lots of people, add up.
