Get a local, regional or long distance map. Use it to plan a road trip!
Once you've planned your route, embellish the experience with research about the sights along the way and in the towns and cities you'll go through. Even if you don't have the time to actually take the trip, the planning is lots of fun!
Get acrylic paint tubes in white, black, red, yellow and blue. Have a tub of rinse water, a paint brush, a colour mix grid and something you can use to get a specific (small) amount of paint.
Measure, mix and chart colours to make recipes for your favourite shades, hues and tints for future reference.
Does this sound more like a creative activity than a Artist's Date? Not so. This date idea is not about creating, as it may seem at first. Gathering input to evoke inspiration is exactly what an Artist's Date is about!
… books at a huge library or book store. The bigger the selection – the better. Musing through art books can be hugely inspirational. Be prepared with a block of time, after your Artist Date. You're gonna want create.
TIP: If your block of time is limited, concentrate on one medium. Infuse yourself in that art to focus your juices.
