However far the stream flows, it never forgets its source -Nigerian Proverb |
I have come to realize that there are certain words or phrases if you will, that you do not say to me when you want me to do something. Unless, you are my boss or are my doctor, because these words or phrases are guaranteed to have the totally opposite effect. These words are “you should” or “you have to” or even “you are expected to do” followed by whatever the person wants or expects me to do.
The reason that I have come to this realization is that a friend and I both think that I could be a writer but I have not written anything accept for some blogging that I promised this friend that I would do and even that she had to put me on notice if you will before I did it.
After much thinking on this situation it came to me that she had said those oh so fatal words, if you are a writer then “you should” be writing. You should have a great and burning desire to write. The above mentioned words and phrases have been used in the past to force me to do things that I did not want to do, so when people say them to me now as an adult, I tend to get my back up and my stubborn streak comes out, even when doing something is for my own good, and I will do anything else but what is wanted or expected of me.
This is something that I am working to changing, so I do not have adversarial relationships with people who choose to say these words to me, not knowing the effect they would have on me.
