There is a calmness to a life lived in gratitude, a quiet joy - Ralph H. Blum |
Have you ever had this happen to you or something similar. A friend made plans to have some time with her women friends. Up to this point she had been spend all her free time with her boyfriend. Girls and she decided to go to a football game. When she told her boyfriend that she had plans with her friends, he was upset with her. He got all the details of when they were going and where they were sitting from her and come game day he shown up and had a seat only a few seats away, where he could see her and keep an eye on her.
When she told me about this it sent alarm bells going off in my head because this is the actions of a guy who is very insecure and possessive. Many an abusive relationship starts off with this type of seemingly innocent event but as the couple gets closer the guy can start to separate the woman from her friends and family, and if she tries to stop him or breaks off the relationship the guy may get scary, and abusive. Stocking her even for months after the relationship has ended. I am sure we have all seen the headlines where the guy has killed his former lover because he decided that if he could not have her then no one could.
Luckily, for my friend, her boyfriend seems to be better adjusted then that but it still worried me, at the time.
