Playing with the dough is just the beginning of the fun. Making your own pretzels is soooooooo yummy!
Mix yeast and water in bowl. Add sugar and table salt. Allow mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to activate yeast. Stir to mix. Add flour all at once. Mix thoroughly. Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes)
Cover bowl with a cloth and let rise 1 hour, until doubled. Punch down. Pull off pieces and form into desired shapes. (Pieces of dough that are too thick will become doughy; thin pieces of dough will become brittle.)
Place shapes on ungreased cookie sheet, cover with cloth and let rise 30 minutes more.
Preheat oven to 425°. Brush all over with beaten egg. Sprinkle on topping. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
