Description

A soft, white clay that can be shaped by hand or tooled with a cookie cutter and squeezed through a pump. It can be air-dried and painted with acrylics and then sealed with a protective matte or gloss coating.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄4 c corn starch
  • 1⁄2 c baking soda
  • 1⁄3 c water
  • extra corn starch
  • acrylic paints
  • sealer, water-based (podgy)

Instructions

Supplies:
measuring cup
medium suacepan
wooden mixing spoon
damp cloth(s)
rolling pin (for ornaments)
paint brushes
air-tight container
Method:

Measure corn starch and baking soda into saucepan; mix together well. Add water and stir until smooth. Cook over medium heat to a dough-like consistency. (The mixture comes to a boil; lumps begin to form and then it becomes a more solid mass, about 10 min.)

Sprinkle table lightly with corn starch. Spoon out clay, cool for a few minutes and knead for 10 minutes. Dough is ready to work when it holds shapes easily. While using clay, cover unused portion with a damp cloth to keep moist.

Dry for 2 days before painting with acrylics. Apply 2 coats Podgy, drying between coats. Store any leftover in an air-tight container, in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
